It has been a little over a year since I got the boat. As you may have heard, it has been quite the adventure.
The boat has been good to me, and really, her sole purpose was to bring me home, wherever that may be. I spent some time in Annapolis and Wilmington, NC and found neither one of those places really worth staying at forever. And then one day, I applied for a job in Charleston.
After several interviews, I took the job. The pay was better than what I made in the military and far better than any odd job I’d picked up along the way, so began a sailing journey that would forever change my outlook on life.
We set out to sail out of the mouth of the Cape Fear River and straight to Charleston nonstop via the Atlantic Ocean. We got caught up in an unexpected storm and were forced to limp home via seatow.
By the end of the week, I’d found an old woman to live with. She had a bunch of cats and it was extremely weird. Before too long I was living in my car because I caught her going through my stuff and I just didn’t feel comfortable there anymore.
Then one day, I met a beautiful woman on the beach, and she stole my heart. We were happy, we had so much fun in those few first weeks when everything was so perfect… Then one day the owner of my company closed us down. It was unexpected … then a week later, Keesha lost her job because she was in the hospital.
Needless to say, with the help of my Grandma, we went to Wilmington, grabbed my boat and sailed down the intercostal to Charleston. That was quite the adventure in and of itself and one I’d love to continue one day down to Savannah and eventually the Keys and the Bahamas.
Charleston is my home, of that I’m sure. The people here are simply amazing, the food: exquisite, the lifestyle: laid back. This place is, hands down, the best place I’ve ever lived. The first place I want to call home.
My journey home has been a tough one at times … but as I prepare to move into our apartment, as our bills become caught up, and as my job seems to get better and better … I realize that it was all worth it.
Until next time,
Cpt. Rob
